10 Free and Exclusive Paper Textures

Our First Texture Set

I’m happy to announce the first texture set released at PSDFAN. I’ve finally got my old camera working, so you can expect many more to come over the course of the month. This first set should prove useful as personally I’m always looking out for new paper textures to use in my designs.

I hope that you find them useful, and I’d love to see where you’ve used them in your designs. As always social bookmarking efforts are much appreciated :)

The textures

You can preview all of the textures below. The actual sizes are 1280X960 for each texture.

Yay papers! hehe… these are great Tom.

They also bring a tutorial idea to mind: removing barrel distortion caused by camera lenses. Ex: look at the first image and note the blue lines bowing out around the left/right sides of the image. It happens all the way around, but is usually most noticable with verticle lines. ;) This is a common phenomena in amateur photos, but is easily fixable in Photoshop.

Not attacking your photo skills Tom – the textures are great! :-D

  2. 2R says:

I made a signature by the above textures. How could I instead into the icon?

  3. Tom says:

Thanks Beets :) I appreciate the suggestion, but I actually think the 1st photo was just shaped that way in real life. Either way, I’m not the greatest photographer – I’m ok but for now I’m forced to use my brother’s bad camera until mine is fixed. I’m a bit hesitant to get into photography/photo retouching as I’ll be the first to admit this isn’t my strongest area!

2R: Awesome, I’d love to see it. :) What do you mean by instead into the icon? Do you mean to use your sig as a gravatar?

  4. 2R says:

Yes, I think it means like your head photos.

  5. 2R says:

In fact, I’ve learnt it for a short time. I send the file on the

Hey 2R. If you want to use the paper texture for a gravatar icon (like my icon next to my comments) then you’ll need to sign up for an account at http://www.gravatar.com. You can create the icon in photoshop using the paper textures though.

  7. Andrew Houle says:

    Whoohoo, freebies! Thanks Tom.

  8. Tom says:

Haha no problem Andrew, I hope you find them useful :)

2R: Ok, let me know how it goes.

  9. 2R says:

Ha Ha, I’ve done it but how can I transfer to here?

  10. Tom says:

It should be working fine if you’ve set it as your gravatar within your gravatar account. Right now your gravatar has changed from the PSDFAN default to black, so you’ve definitely changed it. Perhaps your image was too large though and that’s why only black is showing? Try creating a gravatar of the same dimensions as the gravatar image shown (I’m not sure exactly what the dimensions are – try screengrabbing it).

  11. 2R says:

    work now, thanks

Awesome =D :D No i don’t have to picture one by my self!

  22. I have used textures like this before and set as backgrounds to my print work but I never thought of using them now I have moved more into web. A good idea and I will definitely use these. Make some of my own even and get creative.

  23. Tom Crowle says:

These are great! Always good for use within noise textures. Thanks for sharing.
