It definitely is easier to look at a design objectively when it's not your own I think. Really glad you've been enjoying the 30 minute redesign series so much. I suppose that you look at the details more when the site is good to start off with and its just a case of fine tuning what is already there. I now do this with my websites, look at the strengths and honestly the weaknesses in my design and that helps to make sure that the details are all perfect. Taking a step back and looking at it as an outsider really works! This was a hard redesign to implement as the starting point was really good in the first place!
