30 Minute Redesign: Cheap Sunbed Creams

Week 12: Cheap Sunbed Creams

Cheap Sunbed Creams offers a variety of products to help product against the sun, at very affordable prices.

Cheap Sunbed Creams.

In the space of 5 minutes I can identify some of the key strengths and weaknesses of this design, and sketch out a mockup.

STRENGTHS:

  • Prominent areas for featured and recent products
  • Clear welcome message

WEAKNESSES:

  • The dark background really doesn’t fit with the theme of the site
  • There is too much color variety.
  • The typography is far too small, making it very hard to read, especially against the dark background
  • The layout is a little boxy, it needs more white space
  • There is simply too much content. The text and content needs to be cut down dramatically.

My Redesign

As always, I was limited by the 30 minute time-frame, but I tried to improve upon several of Cheap Sunbed Creams’ features, adding a few design flourishes and a clearer layout that promoted content over wasted space:

WHAT I TRIED TO DO:

  • Use a much lighter background in order to match the sunny theme of the site
  • Use larger, more readable text
  • Integrate more white space, padding out the content more
  • Simplify the amount of content, keeping it down to the essentials
  • Integrate a brighter, more colorful color-scheme, giving the site a more lively feel.

Comparing the 2 Designs:

Here is a quick comparison between the original design and my 30 minute redesign. Sure, my design could be more polished, but I believe that a lot of the basic elements have been improved upon, creating a more pleasant browsing experience.

We are looking at updating our website. It is in need of a major overhaul in terms of both content and looks. We would very much like to put our site forward for a 30 minute redesign.

  12. Hosemaker says:

This site was designed using an off the shelf design with minor changes to help keep costs down. We are unsure but wonder if there is a better way of presenting our website. We are all just amazed at what you are able to do in 30 minutes, all fantastic designs and re-works.
