Week 16: eCustom
In the space of 5 minutes I can identify some of the key strengths and weaknesses of this design, and sketch out a mockup.
STRENGTHS:
- The design is clean and professional
- Coherent color-scheme
- Legible text and menu
WEAKNESSES:
- There is nothing terribly unique about the design, it’s a little generic
- There is a lack of imagery
- The layout feels a little rigid and square
- The typography is a little small, making it harder to read
My Redesign
As always, I was limited by the 30 minute time-frame, but I tried to improve upon several of eCustom’s features, adding a few design flourishes and a clearer layout that promoted content over wasted space:
WHAT I TRIED TO DO:
- Create a more lively color-scheme
- Improve the typography, and add a new logo design
- Give the layout more padding and white space
- Integrated imagery into the design

Here is a quick comparison between the original design and my 30 minute redesign. Sure, my design could be more polished, but I believe that a lot of the basic elements have been improved upon, creating a more pleasant browsing experience.

This redesign is a major improvement over the current site as it looks a lot more professional and nicer to look at. If i still had my old site up, I would probably submit it and see how much you could improve it in 30 minutes.
Oliver, you’re so correct.
I can code a design given to me no problem, but I have troubles designing them you know?
I agree, it’s a huge improvement, and I definitely have some plans for functionality with this design already.

This redesign has really simple changes but improves the site considerably. This is a lot more visually appealing to those visiting the site and encourages them to stay for longer and potentially bringing in more business. A really nice design.
