In the space of 5 minutes I can identify some of the key strengths and weaknesses of this design, and sketch out a mockup.
STRENGTHS:
WEAKNESSES:
As always, I was limited by the 30 minute time-frame, but I tried to improve upon several of D-List’s features, adding a few design flourishes and a clearer layout that promoted content over wasted space:
WHAT I TRIED TO DO:
Here is a quick comparison between the original design and my 30 minute redesign. Sure, my design could be more polished, but I believe that a lot of the basic elements have been improved upon, creating a more pleasant browsing experience.

Hi Tom,
Very nice! Looks a lot better than the current version.
Greetz,
Erik
Wow! You did that re-design in 30 min? What a beast!
Another huge improvement – well done.
I would have dine a similar header/nav area to your own green one here at PSDFAN. I feel like it’s not worth having a full-width nav bar for just three menu items.
Sorry about the typo – darn iPad autocorrect!
WOW! I have been following your redesign series since like week 10 and enjoyed all of it!
I hope you can enter my site (link in my name) in the redesign for next week!
Thanks I really appreciate your effort in this redesign series. Cheers!
I love the cta buttons, they make a great addition to the website’s visual hierarchy!
Another thing about the buttons, it seems that was your goal was to make readers become more enticed to read more content =].
Nice job indeed, very.
Wow Tom, you really nailed this redesign. The new look is great. I love the thumbnail preview for the post with the title over the image. The simplicity of the over all design is great as well. Good job.
Thanks so much guys, I’m glad that this design was such a hit .
Trisha: Yeah, a fixed menu width could easily work with this layout. Possibly just have the layout at the width shown, and then have a background either side though?
Jarod: Yep, I’m a big fan of good call-to-action buttons. They definitely help users click through the site in this example.
Steven: Consider your site included in this weeks poll .
Nice redesign for D-List. Thank you Tom for sharing the redesign every week. Keep it up
WOW ! You are really an incredible design man.
Thank you very very very much to share your eye, and your perfect analyse !
BRAVO !!
