When I think of the word ‘urban’ I often visualize decay, graffiti, dirtiness etc… Clearly urban locations can offer much more than these negative connotations, yet the idea of ‘urban decay’ seems permanently attached to conceptions of the ‘urban’.
However, the magic of great photography is that it can take ordinary, or even distress subject matters and expose their hidden beauty and their unique interesting qualities. Towards that end I’ve compiled 40 hugely impressive shots of urban decay, each of which accentuates it’s subject into something beautiful. Enjoy!

Hi Tom, these are amazing! For shots that feature urban decay, these are “beautiful” in the way it captures and drives the message across. Apparently, even with the progress and moving forward concepts of urbanization, things do get left behind.
