Hey guys,
I wanted to let you know that I’ve been selected to take part in the DesignBoom, INFINITI Digital Art Competition. It’s a great honor to be involved, and I’ll be posting updates right here as my entry progresses.
DesignBoom.com and Infinti are teaming up to host this fantastic competition. Participants are asked to design spectacular or interactive digital artworks, to be displayed in the new centers that INFINITI is opening throughout europe.
Design entries can include:
- an interior installation piece
- and/or digital artwork for a building facade
One of the main reasons that I’m so keen to get involved is the creative freedom allowed by the hosts. Entries really can fall under a range of mediums, including 3D works, exterior/interior works, 2D digital displays and more!
The theme for this competition is ‘Inspired Performance’. Personally I really like the theme as it’s not too restrictive, and evokes a lot of feelings and visuals for me.
Whilst I’m really just getting started with this competition I have been having some thoughts about my future composition. I’m going to stick with what I know best and produce a 2D Photoshop work. I feel that not only will this let me use my best skill-set, but it should make for more interesting reading for you all, as I document my creative process.
After reading through the briefs and combining these with my wider knowledge of the brand, I’ve concluded that Infiniti can best be represented by the following words:
- Bold
- Simple (Refined)
- Sleek
- Clean
- Efficient
- Powerful
- Impressive
- Natural
Of these, the concepts that really grab me are:
- Powerful
- Simple (Refined)
- Natural
Whilst these associations are being made with a car design, I can see a lot of parallels with ‘inspired performance’ or rather, ‘performers’. When I think of something powerful, yet refined, I conjure up images of professional dancers, or athletes. Something about the flow of movement in both dance and sport is evocative of the Infiniti brand, and the poise encapsulated by their models.
The concepts of natural, powerful and refined also make me think of nature. After all, what could be more natural and powerful than nature itself?
Based on these initial concepts I will be trying to produce an engaging piece of digital art combining Infiniti car models, human performers, and visual aspects of nature (perhaps alluding to the four elements). I hope that you’ll check back to see how this competition and my entry progresses.

Congratulations on being selected. When I look at all those adjectives…
- Bold
- Simple (Refined)
- Sleek
- Clean
- Efficient
- Powerful
- Impressive
- Natural
… the thing that pops straight into my head is a thunderstorm.
Thanks Trisha! It’s strange how words evoke different things for different people. I can definitely picture a thunderstorm, but my first thought was of water/waves. It should be a fun contest anyway!
That’s funny. Having been married to a surfer for the past decade, I should have thought ‘waves’ too.
Haha, letting the side down there Trisha!
This sounds like a really great competition! Infiniti is a huge company and just to have the opportunity to have your artwork seen on such a grand scale is amazing. Should be fun!
hey tom! well im entering this Infiniti competition and the rules say that the images we enter have to be 818 pixels wide. i was wondering, do the images have to be 818pixels wide and the length can be whatever size? or does it have to be 818pixels x 818pixels?
Hey David! Awesome, how’s your entry coming along? I’m not 100% sure of image sizing, you’ll have to check their official guideline documents.
hi tom, this is jenny from designboom.
david got in touch with us by e-mail,
but just so that you and your readers know as well:
the images submitted can be any height,
as long as they are 818px wide.
(of course for the actual project there is no
size limitation; these numbers are just for purposes
of uploading your submission)
I hope your project is going great; good luck!
Thanks for clearing that up Jenny! I’ll be posting my entry here soon .
