30 Minute Redesign: Cameroun Groupage Shipping

Week 27: Cameroun Groupage Shipping

Cameroun Groupage Shipping.

In the space of 5 minutes I can identify some of the key strengths and weaknesses of this design, and sketch out a mockup.

STRENGTHS:

  • Bold/bright color-scheme, it’s really eye catching and engaging.
  • Typography is large and readable
  • Clear header design. The menu is fairly easy to use/navigate.

WEAKNESSES:

  • The colorful boxes at the top of the design are cool looking, but not all that usable, and detract from the rest of the design. For example, I’m not sure how the ‘news’ box is actually news? They don’t seem to actually link anywhere either?
  • The menu, whilst fairly usable feels tucked away, and somewhat obsolete.
  • The content area is not consistent. There are about 4 blocks of content, each of which uses a different font, layout etc… This makes the design feel disorganized.
  • The design doesn’t seem to be directing the user towards making any decisions. Call to action buttons are not obvious enough, and the page feels more like a splattering of information, then a clearly focused effort to engage the customer.

My Redesign

As always, I was limited by the 30 minute time-frame, but I tried to improve upon several of Cameroun Groupage Shipping’s features, adding a few design flourishes and a clearer layout that promoted content over wasted space:

WHAT I TRIED TO DO:

  • Create a clearer, more usable menu, that has greater precedence.
  • Made the contact details (the most vital ones) more obvious, integrating them into the header.
  • Scrapped the distracted colored boxes, and instead focused on channeling users to use your services (i.e.: through more focused content and a clear call-to-action button).
  • Made content styling more consistent, using consistent typography and layout.
  • Maintained some of the relevant images, instantly letting users identify with the services provided.

Comparing the 2 Designs:

Here is a quick comparison between the original design and my 30 minute redesign. Sure, my design could be more polished, but I believe that a lot of the basic elements have been improved upon, creating a more pleasant browsing experience.

This is so Great. I love the redesign. THanks a bunch. waiting for the files

    Hey Thompson,

Really glad you liked my design! I’ve emailed across the .psd file.

  3. I always keep up with your 30 minute redesigns as they are always a great improvement over the old designs. This one is especially good as the layout is much clearer and simpler, making it more readable to visitors. The uncluttered design will be more likely to keep people on the site and place an order.

I know you had a hard time re-designing this one considering the original design is already nice and presentable, but then again you’ve put the things in their more appropriate areas. The header and main menu just gets more clean to look at plus the excellent way you distributed the images makes it more encouraging to place an order.

One thing though that I noticed, but maybe it’s just me, footer is a bit off, I think you should have included some shades of green. I got that idea here on your website, take a look at the header and footer of PSDFAN, it looks very nice and appears to go along with each other. But maybe that would take 5 more minutes and you’ve only got 30 minutes :)

    Great re-design Tom.

  5. Nice dude, I like the 3 pictures of moving the products. Looks good.

  6. A nice redesign, I think that this one is a tougher one than usual because as mentioned the presentation of the site is already reasonably good. Sometimes the smaller details can just make the difference though to tie the whole thing together just a little bit more.

I love reading and seeing these redesign jobs. I really wish that I could come up with soemthing creative for my own site. I design and do photography but website layouts have never been a strong point for me. I am tired of using free layouts simply because I dont feel that I can ever get what I need or think I need for my site to be successful.

@Tom I really appreciate the offer but I’m not sure I want you to waste the time on my site. I love stopping in to read and seeing all the redesigns you do. They have helped me to take the time to do more research as to what other sites are doing and what is working for them. So that I can apply what I really need to my site. I know that as a PSDFAN I am giving up a big chance for something great but because of PSDFAN I a, willing to take on the challenge of making my site better on my own. So keep up the great content and all the great work you do.

    • Tom says:

Masabas: No problem at all! :) I’m really glad that I’ve helped inspire you to redesign your site on your own. I look forward to seeing the new design (although I personally really like your current one).
