In the space of 5 minutes I can identify some of the key strengths and weaknesses of this design, and sketch out a mockup.
STRENGTHS:
WEAKNESSES:
As always, I was limited by the 30 minute time-frame, but I tried to improve upon several of Commercial Star’s features, adding a few design flourishes and a clearer layout that promoted content over wasted space:
WHAT I TRIED TO DO:
Here is a quick comparison between the original design and my 30 minute redesign. Sure, my design could be more polished, but I believe that a lot of the basic elements have been improved upon, creating a more pleasant browsing experience.

Good job, I like as you used th egreen in this case.
Awesome – you made the site look ten years younger.
But could you have done it without changing the logo, or by only changing the logo’s colors?
The logo really limits the color scheme and style of the whole site, doesn’t it?
Brilliant design, really love it!
I love these redesign posts.
This one is really awesome again!
Very informative post. Thanks for sharing your insight. I came across your blog via the Web Design Shock list. Will be back for more.
Very nice result..
A really nice re design, the colours on the original were way too much! I think choosing 1-2 colours on a site is all you need really and they can still be bright without being too over the top. I think this style is a lot more appropriate for the product and its audience.
I like your re-design. Can I submit my site…GymDJ? I’d like to see your take on it. http://www.GymDJ.com
Thanks
